Enhance Your Home With A Fireplace Replacement Or Facelift

Does your home have a fireplace that’s been damaged or worn down by Mother Nature or time? Are you wanting to remove your worn-out fireplace and have it replaced with something newer, warmer, and more energy-conscious? Maybe you have a traditional setup that could use an efficiency boost with a fireplace insert?

Or maybe you want that classic, masonry setup, but your home is only equipped with some sleek and modern designs? Though we are big fans of how economical and easy to use prefab fireplaces are, the truth is that their lifespan is far shorter than that of masonry fireplaces, so it may very well be time for you to have a fireplace replacement completed.

Regardless of where your household currently stands, you can trust that our chimney technicians will set you up right. We can remove your old fireplace carefully – with plenty of consideration for how we will reassemble your trim work and mantel after that fact – then set you up with a system that meets your needs exactly.

Let’s get started – call the Lords Chimney crew at 281-497-4000 or reach out to us online now.

What Are My Fireplace Replacement Options?

So, you’ve decided – it’s time for a change. What’s the next step?

Well, it’s time to decide what you want! Lords Chimney can provide you with the best fireplace for your home, family, and budget. When selecting the right fireplace, there are a wide range of considerations to make regarding warmth and efficiency, expense, design, construction, and how much value you want to add to your home.

We’re happy to consult with you about the fireplace of your dreams and will do our best to build or order it for you and then install it safely and quickly.

Masonry Fireplaces: We love to build beautiful, traditional fireplaces of brick (or stone) and mortar, using both modern and ancient practices to ensure that your chimney and fireplace will last a lifetime.

Factory-Built Fireplaces: Made of lightweight metal, factory-built fireplaces come as complete sets – with a firebox, whole chimney system, and various other components all together. They’re guaranteed to run at optimum efficiency and have high safety ratings when professionally installed. Plus, having one of these installed takes far less time and costs far less than it would cost you to have a masonry fireplace and chimney built.

Fireplace Inserts: Our fireplace inserts can give new life to your existing masonry or factory-built fireplace opening, and allow you to choose from diverse fuel options – wood, gas, or pellet. They are also a great source of clean-burning and efficient heat.

Gas Log Fireplaces: Gas log fireplaces will give you the look of a real wood fire, but appeal to a lot of people because they’re so easy to use and maintain. Most are operated by remote control.

Questions? Don’t hesitate to give our experts a call. We’re happy to address your concerns and inquiries, listen to your needs and budget, then get you on the path to getting the hearth setup of your dreams.

Is a Fireplace Facelift In Order?

Ready for a change, but don’t feel up to investing in a full-on renovation or replacement? A simple fireplace facelift might be the better way to go.

What are the benefits of booking a fireplace facelift?

  • You can change the look of an outdated system without having to invest in major repair or renovation work.
  • You may experience improved efficiency if the old materials weren’t designed for optimal heat output.
  • It’s just a fact of life – older appliances and decor take more time to maintain. A newer, cleaner, sleeker design could minimize your workload.
  • A new fireplace face can play a big role in boosting the current value of your home.
  • You won’t have to pay an arm and a leg to redesign the look of one of your home’s biggest focal points.
  • Personalizing to your unique tastes and preferences isn’t a problem. There are tons of styles, materials, and colors to choose from.

    Interested in New Fireplace Accessories?

Maybe your fireplace set up is everything you could have dreamed of – in heat output, looks, overall efficiency, and everything else. Great! Now, add the finishing touches with some quality fireplace accessories.

Here at Lords Chimney, we sell glass doors, mantels, ventilation fans, and more, so you can find exactly what you need to give your hearth that complete, homey look and vibe you’re hoping for.

If you have a fireplace and your home was built during the past few decades, it’s very likely that you have a factory-built fireplace – also known as a prefabricated fireplace or a manufactured fireplace.

Over the last 25 years these fireplaces have soared in popularity, thanks to their affordability and the ease of installation. Made of lightweight metal, factory-built fireplaces come as complete sets with a firebox, whole chimney system, and various other components.

When professionally installed, they’re guaranteed to run at optimum efficiency and have high safety ratings. Plus, having one of these installed takes far less time. It also costs far less than it would cost you to pay a mason to build a more traditional chimney and fireplace of brick or stone and mortar.

Another big plus? They aren’t a permanent fixture. They have the perk of raising the value of your home, while not becoming integral to the foundation of your home’s construction. In other words… future buyers will either be happy it’s there and keep it, or they’ll be happy they won’t have to pay an arm and a leg to remove it. It’s kind of a win, either way.

Can I DIY my prefab install?

The Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA) reports that nearly half of prefab chimney systems are installed incorrectly. Because chimney and firebox clearance specifications must be strictly adhered to, it’s important to hire a professional to install and maintain your factory-built fireplace. A yearly inspection will help ensure your safety, as well as your fireplace’s continued efficiency.

How do I know if my prefabricated fireplace needs to be replaced?

You probably need to replace your prefabricated metal fireplace if you look at the fireplace from the inside of your home and can see rust or warped metal, or if you cannot obtain a UL-listed replacement part (or an acceptable alternative). In addition, if it has been two or three decades since you installed it, it’s probably time to start looking for an upgrade.

Would a Masonry Fireplace Be a Good Fit in My Home?

Though so many of today’s fireplaces are prefabricated or factory-built, the traditional masonry fireplace is what most of us think of when we think “fireplace.” Made of brick or stone and mortar, these are the fireplaces that we envision Saint Nick climbing out of on Christmas Eve, rosy-cheeked and covered in soot. These are the fireplaces that remain when every other part of a house has crumbled around it.

Masonry fireplace structures are built with brick, cement blocks, or natural stones, and they do a great job of containing a fire. Strong, sturdy, and often massive, some masonry fireplaces weigh as much as six or seven tons. As such, their construction requires a lot of careful consideration and planning.

Masonry fireplaces can be both traditional and modern. In fact, we’ve had a lot of fun building some of Houston’s statement-making stone fireplaces!

Nonetheless, whether you want a modest hearth or a masonry fireplace that makes an imposing architectural statement, Lords Chimney has you covered. Our master masons take pride in building quality fireplaces stone by stone or brick by brick. We know chimneys and fireplaces upwards and backwards, so you can trust that all components of your chimney and fireplace will work together to give you an efficient masonry fireplace designed to withstand time and high temperatures.

What are the advantages of a masonry fireplace?

While both prefab and masonry setups are great choices, there are a few things that really stand out if you’re leaning towards the more traditional brick style.

Durability. Compared to today’s popular prefab fireplace and chimney sets, you can count on a well-made and maintained masonry chimney to last for the life of your home.

Quality. There’s no substitute for the quality of a properly designed and well-built masonry fireplace, which means that you’re maximizing the value added to your home.

Versatility. Masonry fireplaces and chimneys can be used to contain both gas- and wood-burning fires. And they can be made from a variety of material and color options too.

Worried about maintenance after the fact? Don’t. Lords Chimney is available to inspect, clean, waterproof, and maintain your masonry chimney and outfit it with any needed parts. In addition, we take on tuckpointing projects to repair masonry chimneys with damaged mortar. With Lords Chimney on the job, you can trust that you’re getting the highest level of quality possible.

What Is The Difference Between A Masonry & A Prefabricated Metal Fireplace?

There are three major areas of difference between masonry and prefabricated fireplaces:

Construction Process: A prefab fireplace is built in a factory and then installed in a home or business. A masonry fireplace is usually custom-built on-site.

Materials: A prefab fireplace is constructed predominantly with galvanized steel (and a small amount of stainless steel), while masonry fireplaces are typically constructed with brick and mortar (and a few metal parts).

Lifespan: The life expectancy of a prefab fireplace is generally 20-30 years. Masonry fireplaces, if built correctly and cared for properly, last for generations. Both masonry and prefabricated fireplaces must be installed and maintained appropriately in order to be used and enjoyed. Both can burn wood or operate with gas logs (if a gas connection is available).

        What Are Modular Masonry Fireplaces?

Here at Lords Chimney, we also offer modular masonry fireplaces, which are manufactured by FireRock. A modular masonry fireplace refers to a masonry fireplace kit that is manufactured in-factory and then put together on-site.

FireRock is known as the “leading manufacturer of pre-engineered masonry fireplace and chimney systems,” and offers a variety of sizes and designs. Installation typically only takes a couple of days, which makes these fireplaces a less expensive, less labor- intensive alternative to traditional masonry fireplaces. They are also designed to radiate heat better, and can burn either wood or gas, venting through a masonry or a metal chimney.

Another benefit to these fireplaces is that they can be installed where traditional masonry fireplaces cannot, due to improper clearance from combustibles.
